Yuri Suzuki is a sound artist and designer who uses sound as a medium to shape spaces and engage the public. His practice harnesses AI and machine learning to create soundscapes that evolve in real time with the environment and the listener’s voice contributions. The fluid, shared experiences they offer pose a contrast to conventional active listening.

Suzuki’s Metropolitan Symphony No. 1 is inspired by Brian Eno’s concept of ambient music, which centres on creating sonic environments that blend with the surroundings, and by Saladaeng Radiotelegraph Station, the first facility of its kind in Thailand. With a sculptural form inspired by trumpets and horns, the installation creates a soothing soundscape in the heart of One Bangkok and helps reshape the city’s sonic landscape.

Metropolitan Symphony No.1 blends together environmental recordings and human vocal elements, including fragments of Thai language. When a listener contributes their voice via the sculpture’s silver trumpet bells, it is transformed into vibrant sound patterns that play from the gold trumpets. Another fluid sound experience can be enjoyed by approaching Metropolitan Symphony No. 2, located just outside The Wireless House One Bangkok, a reconstruction of Saladaeng Radiotelegraph Station built to house a permanent exhibition about its history.
