People-Centric Design is not just a process of creating spaces; it is a mindset focused on genuinely responding to people’s needs and well-being. This approach has become a cornerstone of sustainable development whereby spaces are created that are not only comfortable but also inspiring, supporting better living in every dimension.

What Does People-Centric Mean?

“People-centric” is a philosophy or design approach that prioritizes humans at the centre of all development, whether of products, services, or buildings. The goal is to create better experiences that genuinely meet users’ needs.

People-centric design considers more than just convenience; it also encompasses safety, mental health, and physical well-being. A clear example of applying this approach is designing spaces where people can live comfortably while supporting an overall better quality of life.

The Importance of People-Centric Design

People-centric design plays a crucial role in enhancing quality of life across physical, mental, and social dimensions. This type of design creates environments that facilitate effective living and improves overall happiness.

  • Promotes Physical Health: Spaces with good air circulation, clean water, and exercise areas help people maintain strong physical health.
  • Supports Mental Health: Natural lighting, green areas, and quiet environments reduce stress and improve well-being.
  • Enhances Social Connections: Spaces that encourage social interaction connect people and build stronger communities.

One Bangkok and People-Centric Design

The One Bangkok project effectively applies people-centric design principles to enhance quality of life in every dimension, following the concept of “Better Quality of Life in One Bangkok.” This approach covers three key dimensions:

Physical Vitality

  • Walkways designed for 15-minute connectivity between points, with 5 kilometers of continuous paths throughout the project.
  • Tree-lined promenades stretching 2.6 kilometers for comfortable walking and relaxation.
  • Buildings designed to maximize natural light with automatic lighting systems.
  • High-efficiency air filtration and sterilization systems for clean and fresh air.
  • Soundproof building walls to reduce external noise and enhance concentration.

Mental & Social Rejuvenation

  • Over 50 acres of green and open public spaces encourage social and community activities.
  • Inspire creativity and enrich life experiences with the Art Loop, featuring world-class art and cultural programs across a 2-kilometre route.

Safe & Secure Environment

  • The District Command Center monitors and manages all systems, including security, using over 250,000 smart sensors.
  • Universal Design standards create accessible spaces for all, including wheelchair-friendly paths and tactile paving for visually impaired users.
  • Clear and intuitive signage throughout the project.

One Bangkok demonstrates the potential of people-centric design by prioritizing comfort and safety. By integrating people-centric design with PlaceMaking principles, the project creates meaningful spaces that foster interaction between people and their surroundings. This combination establishes a model sustainable city at One Bangkok, fully connecting people and enabling everyone to live life to the fullest with happiness every day.
