One Bangkok and The PARQ Support Bangkok Art Biennale 2022
Offering New Perspectives on Thailand as a World-Class Art Destination
One Bangkok, the largest holistically integrated district in the heart of Bangkok , and the PARQ lifestyle mixed-use development under the concept "Life Well Balanced", support Bangkok Art Biennale for the third consecutive year. This time, One Bangkok and The PARQ showcase masterpieces by Thai and international artists as part of the national initiative to position Bangkok as one of the world’s leading destinations for contemporary art. The event also serves to educate Thailand’s art-loving community and elevate art appreciation within the country. Artworks will be on display at The Prelude One Bangkok and The PARQ’s Q Space and BAB Café until 23 February 2023.
Commenting on the announcement, Charintip Choomuenwai, Chief Curator and Vice President of Art & Culture at One Bangkok and The PARQ said, “The arts and culture generally is a cornerstone of ONE Bangkok and The PARQ. We want to become synonymous with art at home and abroad through the promotion of public arts and creative programs, which is why once again we are happy to be working closely with Bangkok Art Biennale and artists from Thailand and overseas, hosting a platform for them to showcase their creativity to a wider community.”
“This is the third year in a row that we have supported Bangkok Art Biennale. The theme in 2022 is CHAOS : CALM and we have created many wonderful pockets of calm in which art lovers can contemplate and appreciate thoughtfully selected art pieces. They include works by Thai artist and independent curator Chitti Kasemkitvatana, Thai computer graphic artist Uninspired by Current Events, and independent Italian artist and sculptor Francesco Arena,” Charintip added.”
Bangkok Art Biennale 2022 is overseen by a group of renowned art experts, curators and consultants from Thailand and abroad. They are led by Dr. Apinan Poshyananda, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Bangkok Art Biennale. The festival this year sees 73 artists from 35 countries exhibiting more than 200 works of art throughout various Bangkok landmarks. The pieces on display in both physical and virtual spaces cover a multitude of artistic disciplines that include classic art, mixed media, technologically enhanced art, installation art, sculpture, multimedia, film, music and others. The pieces not only reflect the current state of life in Thailand and inspire different perspectives on the Thai art scene but also spotlight the many cultural memes currently dominating in the wider world.
As Professor Dr. Apinan Poshyanand, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Bangkok Art Biennale 2022 points out, this year’s event reflects the general uncertainty that people currently feel everywhere given the changes in the world triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the global climate crisis, war in Europe, political ambivalence and corruption, the rise in the cost of living, and the expanding wealth gap across most societies. The CHAOS : CALM concept of this year’s festival challenged the artists to interpret these two contrasting words and represent the vulnerabilities of life, inclusivity, acceptance of racial diversity and gender identity within their own artistic styles.
Bangkok Art Biennale 2022 highlights on display at One Bangkok and The PARQ include:
Art Gallery, The Prelude One Bangkok SilentDREAM by Chitti Kasemkitvatana. The renowned Thai artist and independent curator presents a multimedia installation inspired by his personal sense of “space” and “time”. The contemporary installation turns “image” into “sound” with a homage to King Rama IV’s master plan of modernity as seen in Khrua In Khong’s mural at the ordination hall of Boromniwas Temple and in the current socio-political situation within the country. Encoded with the dynamism of various forces, the work demonstrates coexistence of different layers of time in the same moment.
Selected works in the Bangkok Art Biennale 2022 CHAOS : CALM are on display from now until 23 February 2023 at The Prelude One Bangkok and The PARQ. Admission is free. For more information, please visit https://www.onebangkok.com/en/experiences/bab-2022.html
