OUR STORY

1857

Era of Trade

As trade with Europe increased in the 19th century, European consuls in Bangkok petitioned King Rama IV for a shortcut canal be excavated to bypass the winding Chao Phraya river. The new canal was called "Khlong Thanon Trong" (Straight Road Canal), known today as Khlong Hua Lamphong. The mud excavated in digging the canal was used to build a road along the northern side of the canal, known as Thanon Trong. Considered the first real road in Thailand, it was renamed Rama IV Road in 1919. Rice to Red Railway Station

The first known record of the One Bangkok site was a paddy field under Royal patronage. The name of the area was not established until 1893, when a railway station with its eye-catching red roof was built nearby this field. Later, it was formally established as a subdistrict or "Tambon Sala Daeng", home to many significant landmarks such as Chulalongkorn University, Chulalongkorn Hospital, embassies, and Radio Bangkok. The First Railway

On his visit to Europe, King Rama V foresaw that a railway line from Bangkok to Samut Prakan would contribute greatly to the economic capabilities of Siam and established Paknam Railway, Thailand's first railway line, which started operating in 1893 between Hua Lamphong Station and Paknam Station. As the usage of buses and private cars became more commonplace, the rail operations ceased in 1959. In its place came what would eventually be the expanded Rama IV Road.

FROM A RICH LEGACY TO A NEW VISION

One Bangkok brings elements of Old Bangkok – open air markets, narrow alleys, and shaded boulevards – to a highly sustainable, 21st century district for business, culture, and living in one of the city's most vibrant neighborhoods. It is a district that imagines a new future for a greater Bangkok and a new global destination that chages the way people work, live, and play.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

A once-in-a-generation development demands the highest considerations of planning, design, and construction. More than just erecting tall buildings, One Bangkok is centred on diversity of uses and architecture, overlaid with sustainability principles. It will be sensitive to the local social and cultural context, incorporating Thailand’s heritage and aspects that are unique to Bangkok, to make the district an integral part of the city.

MEETING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF LIVEABILITY

CITY–LIVING THAT IS SMART & SUSTAINABLE

One Bangkok is designed to offer a green, safe, and inviting environment for all. Almost half of the site is allocated to an integrated system of streets, squares, and open spaces that encourages people to spend more time outdoors. The entire district is enabled by a smart centralised infrastructure system. By integrating innovations in sustainability into the physical development, all businesses, visitors, workers, and residents will benefit from significant energy savings, and from a cleaner and healthier environment.

WORLD-CLASS TEAM

Driving the success of One Bangkok is a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of leading professionals, bringing together local knowledge and expertise with international best practice and innovation.
