The Wireless House One Bangkok is a conservation project dedicated to the Saladaeng Radiotelegraph Station, Thailand’s first radiotelegraph station and the origin of Wireless Road or Witthayu Road. The station was once an important symbol of the neighbourhood and represented the advancement of communication technology in its time, before its operations ceased and it gradually faded from public memory.
More than a century after the station first began operating in 1914, the foundations of the radiotelegraph station, its 60-metre radio mast, and everyday artefacts buried beneath the ground were rediscovered during the construction of One Bangkok.
To honor the site’s historical significance and reconnect it with the modern city, One Bangkok's curatorial team collaborated with The Fine Arts Department, archaeologists, conservation architects, and designers from various disciplines. Together, they excavated, conserved, and revealed the site’s history by reconstructing the long-lost building and establishing a permanent exhibition on the story of Saladaeng Radiotelegraph Station. The exhibition also explores the history of the Witthayu-Rama IV district, offering a vivid representation of the area’s past, present and future.
The Wireless House at One Bangkok is a must-visit, permanent exhibition open to the public free of charge. This exhibition serves as a crucial historical marker of the area and preserves the legacy while offering a space for cultural activities accessible to all.
