One Bangkok, together with Shma and the we!park, invites everyone to be part of a journey from "Participation" to "Placemaking" — a place-creation process built on the belief that a Space becomes a meaningful, living Place only when people take part in shaping it together. Over the past 19 years, Shma has viewed placemaking as a process that requires understanding people, context, nature, and the relationships that occur within a space, from the level of daily life up to the level of the city.
On this occasion, One Bangkok is opening up its space as a platform to explore the concept of Placemaking through talks, workshops, and an exhibition over a full 6 days, from 1 – 6 September 2026 at One Bangkok.
Interactive Exhibition — "Place Not Space"
An experiential exhibition inviting visitors to explore how "participation" can transform an ordinary space into a place with meaning. On 1 – 4 September 2026, 07.00 – 22.00 hrs., and 5 – 6 September 2026, 10.00 – 22.00 hrs., at The Wireless Club, G Floor, The Stories, at One Bangkok.
Placemaking Talk – "How Placemaking Turns Everyday Experiences into Long-term Value"
A talk inviting audiences to understand placemaking as a process that begins with understanding people and leads to designing experiences that make people want to spend time in a place and return to it again, while exploring how a place can create long-term value for a city.
Moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Supitcha Tovivich, Faculty of Architecture, Silpakorn University, together with Mr. Esben Neander Kristensen — Team Director of Masterplanning & Design Global, Partner, Gehl Architects, and Mr. Yossapon Boonsom — Founding Director, Shma Company Limited.
On 5 September 2026, 12.30 – 14.30 hrs., at One Bangkok Forum.
Placemaking Workshop – "How can we transform a Space into a Place?"
A workshop bringing together people from a wide range of disciplines to experience the placemaking process first-hand, from understanding people and spaces to jointly developing concepts to enhance the quality of life of a space and city.
On: 5 September 2026, 14.45 – 17.30 hrs., at One Bangkok Forum. Only 15 participants will be accepted for this workshop.
