One Bangkok looks to inspire Thailand’s young artists in first initiative of its art program under the theme “Future of Bangkok”

Bangkok, 7 March 2019 – One Bangkok recently culminated the first activity of its art program, under the theme “Future of Bangkok” a two-month curriculum for 477 students from Plukchit School, Klongtoey Wittaya School and Sunee Pittaya School located in the Rama IV area, by hosting an awards ceremony to recognize the remarkable creativity and artistic talent shown by the local youth. Realizing the significant role developers play in creating sustainable communities beyond their own properties, One Bangkok awarded scholarships to winning students who depicted the most creative reinterpretations of the capital under the theme of ‘The Future of Bangkok’.

“One Bangkok realizes the importance of community and especially youth engagement. We believe the ‘One Bangkok Art Program’ – which includes the provision of art supplies to local schools – is a small yet powerful contribution that will encourage students to grow and help them reach their potential,” said Ms. Su Lin Soon, CEO – Development, One Bangkok.

The first initiative of the ‘One Bangkok Art Program’ was held for students in Grades 3-to-6, aimed at stimulating Thai youth and unleashing their creative potential. The program included practical art classes where selected guest teachers visited each school to educate them on specific skills and techniques, and then helped students develop art pieces inspired by what they want Bangkok to look like in the future.

Thanapan Sae-tang, a fourth-grade winner from Plukchit School, highlighted that “Art is a magical thing that we sometimes can't see, so we create it to make it come to life. I would like to thank the One Bangkok team for introducing me to artworks from renowned artists which inspired me to create this art piece. I wanted to bring galaxies, aliens and mythical creatures to earth and make them harmoniously coexist with humans, accepting one another despite the differences.”

Also appreciative was Khan-ngern Charoenpanich, the sixth-grade winner from Klongtoey Wittaya School, who said “I love the gradation painting technique. Even though I already know how to do it, the guest teacher brought more cool tips and tricks that help me master my painting skill.”

Apart from special art classes, the program also took students on a guided tour through BAB BOX at One Bangkok, the information center of Bangkok Art Biennale 2018 - a major event in Thailand’s cultural calendar alongside the Photo Bangkok Festival and Bangkok Theatre Festival. The tour exposed students to the large-scale sculptures of international artists like Yoshimoto Nara and Choi Jeong Hwa, alongside dynamic indoor art installations and paintings created by several renowned artists. BAB BOX’s curators provided the students information and background on each artwork in a fun and simple manner to encourage the students to think and be inspired.

“Having the guest teacher come over to our school and the visits at BAB really helped me fulfill my learning experiences.I believe that this informal way of education allows me to form my own unique experiences and take away interesting information that could further develop my imagination and creative abilities,” said Thanakorn Jiendorn, a fifth-grade winner from Sunee Pittaya School.

“Our children are the future of Bangkok and we hope this initiative will further support the flourishing of art and culture in the community,” Ms. Su Lin Soon, CEO – Development, One Bangkok concluded.
